We're recruiting for an experienced HGV / Plant Mechanic to join a busy and varied engineering operation in Leicester. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced HGV Technician, Plant Mechanic, Agricultural/Plant Engineer or Commercial Vehicle Technician who enjoys working across a broad range of vehicles, plant machinery and specialist equipment. You'll work on everything from HGVs and trailers to JCB plant machinery, hooklift equipment, conveyors and compactors, making this a genuinely varied role where your mechanical, electrical and hydraulic skills will be put to use every day.

The Role

  • Carrying out 6-weekly vehicle and trailer inspections and servicing.
  • Completing preventative maintenance and MOT preparation.
  • Servicing and repairing HGV chassis and trailers.
  • Working on DAF, Volvo and Renault commercial vehicles.
  • Maintaining and repairing JCB telehandlers, loading shovels, 360 excavators and access platforms.
  • Carrying out repairs and servicing on plant machinery including mills, conveyors and compactors.
  • Working on hooklift / RORO equipment and tanker and curtain-side trailers.
  • Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment, including Jaltest.
  • Repairing and replacing components including engines, transmissions, brakes, AdBlue systems, ABS components and electrical systems.
  • Diagnosing and dealing with breakdowns by telephone, roadside and on customer sites.
  • Participating in a 1 week in 4 on-call rota.
  • Carrying out general repairs and maintenance on plant vehicles and machinery.
  • Maintaining accurate inspection sheets, job sheets, parts records and time records.
  • Communicating effectively regarding repairs, estimated completion times and parts requirements.
  • Following all company Health & Safety procedures and working safely at all times.

About You

  • 3+ years' practical experience in a relevant mechanical role.
  • Experience working on multi-brand commercial vehicles.
  • Knowledge and experience of hooklift / RORO equipment.
  • IRTEC certification.
  • Good knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  • A positive, reliable and professional approach.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A genuine desire to develop existing skills and learn new ones.

Desirable Experience

  • 6+ years' practical experience.
  • Broad multi-brand vehicle experience.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of LOLER regulations relating to hooklift equipment.
