We are currently recruiting for a Powertrain Build Engineer to join our growing team and support one of our key OEM clients in the execution of complex engine and electric drive unit builds.
What To Expect
As a Build Engineer, you will play a critical role within Powertrain Operations and Product Engineering, supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of prototype builds across combustion engines and electric drive units (EDUs). Working closely with engineering teams, component owners, and build supervisors, you will ensure timely, high-quality builds aligned with the OEM\’s powertrain cycle plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to engineering teams on engine and EDU prototype builds
- Work alongside build supervisors to coordinate build engineering activity—including new builds, reworks, conversions, and tear-downs
- Ensure build items are tracked, expedited, and resolved efficiently to maintain productive workflow
- Instrument engines and EDUs for delivery to Prototype Test operations
- Support BOM validation and ensure all build route issues are addressed
- Represent build engineering during design verification and deviation management activities
- Manage the delivery of tooling, instructions, parts, and build documentation
- Support the setup and maintenance of change management processes for prototype builds
- Communicate schedule and scope changes to relevant teams and ensure alignment across departments
Requirements
- Level 4 qualification (HNC or higher) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)
- Strong understanding of powertrain build environments, processes, and technologies
- Proven experience with prototype or low-volume build support in an OEM or Tier 1 environment
- Technical knowledge of engine and EDU systems and instrumentation
- Experience with BOM interrogation, deviation tracking, and issue resolution
- Ability to clearly communicate technical data to both engineering and operations teams
- Familiarity with safety, quality and testing standards related to prototype builds
