Portfield School’s Sixth Form in Christchurch, which opened in March 2024, is rapidly growing and making a real difference as it supports an inspiring group of students on their journey into adulthood. We provide a dynamic and distinctive approach to further education, tailored to empower young people aged 16 to 18 to thrive and reach their full potential. We are excited to be growing our team and are looking to recruit for a Teaching Assistant to join us full time.

The role involves becoming part of a vibrant classroom environment, supporting a group of up to ten young people aged 15 to 19 as they learn, grow, and develop. Our focus is preparing the students for adulthood by developing independence and essential life skills. We achieve this by using three areas of learning:

  • Functional skills for English, Maths and Computing
  • The Kings Trust for Apprenticeship/work-based learning/ASDAN work place qualifications
  • Life skills to prepare for adulthood

Life at Portfield School Sixth Form is anything but traditional. Students get involved in a variety of activities such as cooking, theatrical productions, barista training, music, football and much more. Each experience is designed to build confidence, develop skills and allow the student to thrive in a supportive environment. We love celebrating all the amazing achievements whether it’s playing a new instrument, preparing a new dish in the kitchen, or being able to solve a tricky science question.

Hours of work - 37 hours (Term time)

  • Monday - 08:30am - 4pm
  • Tuesday - 08:30am - 4:30pm
  • Wednesday - 08:30am - 4pm
  • Thursday - 08:30am - 4pm
  • Friday - 08:30am - 3:30pm

To be successful as a Teaching Assistant, we are looking for someone who:

  • Has a fun and supportive nature
  • Doesn’t hesitate to play and get messy
  • Displays a calm approach, even when under pressure
  • Will support with personal care such as nappies and toilet training
  • Can participate in any exercise and activities required
  • Will use their initiative where needed
  • Can easily adapt themselves in different situations
