About Autism Plus
Autism Plus is a leading Yorkshire charity supporting adults and young people with autism, learning disabilities, mental health conditions and complex needs. Founded in 1986 by parents seeking better support for children entering adulthood, the charity remains focused on empowering people to live independent, fulfilling lives. We employ over 350 staff across northern England in care support services, employment support and social enterprise businesses.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Desirable: Full Driving Licence and access to a vehicle
Job Summary
This role will entail working on a 1‑1 basis with individuals with autism or related conditions. You will improve their life opportunities and help them move towards sustainable paid employment through a variety of interventions. Duties include supporting individuals to develop individual action plans, identifying barriers to work and partnering with them to overcome these obstacles. Support is tailored to individual needs; you will use a range of resources and networks to provide appropriate support for education, voluntary work or paid employment. You may also deliver group courses on confidence building, assertiveness and employability, contribute to course materials and develop innovative support methods. The role covers the South and West Yorkshire area; a car is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure high levels of performance and standards of work in line with Autism Plus policies and procedures.
- Encourage and support individuals to express their needs, views and concerns, enabling them to make choices and decisions.
- Build knowledge of employment, training and personal development opportunities, sharing this information with colleagues and management.
- Provide support through practical assistance, teaching, advice, role modelling, encouragement and positive feedback.
- Promote non‑discriminatory practices and respect the rights of people with ASC, learning difficulties, complex needs and mental health issues.
- Develop meaningful and trusting relationships to enhance confidence, self‑esteem, personal development and wellbeing.
- Build personal development plans and implement them in a person‑centred way.
- Consistently consider the needs of individuals, taking into account autism and any other sensory, physical, learning disabilities or mental health needs, including personal care.
- Maintain safeguarding knowledge and apply safeguarding policies and procedures, including Mental Capacity and Best Interests training.
