Peterhouse School is a non‑maintained Specialist School for autistic children and young adults aged 5-19 in Southport. We are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable practitioner who can take a holistic approach to supporting young people with a unique set of circumstances, working 1:1 with young people in liaison with parents/carers to identify support needs and barriers to learning, and address these creatively and flexibly using innovative strategies.

In this role you will work collaboratively with young people and their families as part of the Flexible Education team. You will also work alongside colleagues from across Peterhouse School and the Family Support team, as well as external stakeholders such as SEN Caseworkers, Health and Social Care professionals, and others. You will be part of a growing provision, which supports young people who are unable to access school or attend an educational setting.

Key aspects of the role will include:

  • Being an active member of the Flex Ed team and contributing to the internal and multi‑agency meetings.
  • Assisting the Flex Ed Mentors to evaluate progress through recording and reporting and contributing to discussions.
  • Supporting the effective delivery of the Flex Ed curriculum and providing bespoke, individualised education within the context of the Flexible Education Provision.
  • Assisting in the implementation and evaluation of Education, Health and Care Plan outcomes for Flex Ed learners.
  • Supporting Flex Ed Mentors through direct liaison with professionals, parents and carers to ensure appropriate consideration of logistical and environmental factors necessary to facilitate learner engagement with Flex Ed support.
  • Working with pupils at any key stage within Peterhouse School as required, including the facilitation of transitions through 1:1 work and providing support to class staff teams.
  • Demonstrating an attitude of open‑mindedness and a willingness to develop existing knowledge and skills to adapt practice within an educational role, and contributing to the ongoing development of Flex Ed as a provision.

If you wish to work in a stimulating environment where you can make a genuine impact on the lives of young people and their families, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

Peterhouse School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all its staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All post holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check with barred list information, the cost of which will be met by Autism Initiatives.
