Salary: £14.56 per hour

Hours: 18.5 hours - 3 week rolling rota, 2 weekends out of 3

Do you want to make a difference to people’s lives? Then come and work for us as a Senior Autism Practitioner at Autism East Midlands, the leading regional Autism charity in the East Midlands. This is a job where you really will be making a difference to people’s lives. Supporting people with autism in our residential service with a variety of activities they enjoy as well as promoting independent living skills. You will find this a rewarding job, which promises variety as no two days are ever the same.

You will be positively supporting people by providing holistic support including personal care, medication administration, integration into the local community and to manage their anxieties, which they may communicate through distressing behaviour. You will hold an NVQ in Health and Social Care or equivalent and have experience working in either a senior support worker role or a senior care assistant role, within the NHS or Health and Social Care sector, this position would be well suited to you.

Purpose Of The Post

To provide high quality, flexible and person-centred support for adults with a learning disability and autism spectrum disorder. To promote the development of each individual’s full potential. To support individuals to live as independently as possible in their own home and to meaningfully engage with their local community.

Main Duties And Responsibilities
  • To deliver a high standard of person-centred care and support to service users.
  • Ensuring these high standards are established and maintained, including appropriate attention to physical, cultural, social, educational, recreational and emotional needs.
  • To organise and prioritise daily tasks to ensure that the individuals’ needs are being met and achieving positive outcomes as a result of the support given.
  • To develop and support others to establish and maintain positive working relationships with service users, their families and other team members.
  • To take responsibility for ensuring all required records are kept up to date, are of sufficient quality, kept securely, confidentially and in line with GDPR guidelines.
  • To liaise with families, managers, out of hours provision, the clinical team and external agencies in a professional manner and record appropriately within the bounds of confidentiality.
  • To be accountable and responsible for medication administration and to carry out daily checks.
  • To be accountable and responsible for an individual’s finances and carryout daily checks, ensuring reconciliation of monies and reporting any errors.
  • To take an active role in the shaping of individual support plans and assure that they are of quality and fit for purpose.
  • Ensure that risk assessments, positive behaviour support plans and mental capacity assessments are reviewed and relevant.
  • To support, develop and role model a greater knowledge of autism spectrum disorder and to support team members in their understanding of autism spectrum disorder.
  • To support, develop and role model a detailed understanding of Positive Behaviour Support.
  • To effectively communicate verbally, in writing. Using digital to ensure continuity of care is maintained.
  • To support service users with personal care if required.
  • To deputise for the manager as and when required and cover other duties commensurate with the post.
