As Legal Counsel, EMEA, you'll be part of Authentic Brand Group's Business & Legal Affairs Department, which is responsible for drafting and negotiating key fashion, entertainment and media deals (including IP license agreements) in tandem with business development and brand management teams. You'll regularly interact with Authentic's Intellectual Property Department and other internal business units (Marketing/Communications, Finance, Operations, etc.). You are a detailâoriented, highly motivated and adaptable attorney that will focus on fashion, entertainment, and media licensing for our portfolio of 30+ brands. You have excellent communication skills and can articulate positions related to IP licensing in a way that balances business needs with risk mitigation, with an eye on achieving business results.
You will be required to function at the highest degree of precision, at a fast pace, and in collaboration with a highly sophisticated inâhouse team of experts in their fields. You are a driven performer who thrives in a fastâpaced environment. You'll be reviewing, negotiating and drafting the following types of agreements: long and short form trademark license agreements, retail and/or e-commerce operations, permission and clearance agreements, term sheets, sponsorship/endorsement agreements, event agreements, influencer agreements, agreements/rules for sweepstakes/contests, and settlement agreements.
What You'll Be Working On
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements relating to intellectual property licensing (with an emphasis on trademarks and copyrights), entertainment, fashion, and media marketing (e.g., influencers and talent), eâcommerce, and general commercial matters.
- Providing advice and counsel regarding trademarks and other intellectual property.
- Coordinating directly and efficiently with colleagues from Authentic's business development, brand management, and marketing teams.
- Enabling the business to timely achieve its targets, while respecting the Company's principles and applicable laws, and assisting in embedding these principles into the Company's processes and decisions.
- Implementing and overseeing corporate policies, procedures, and programs.
- Assist inâhouse and outside counsel with ongoing general matters for the Legal Department, as required in the dayâtoâday functioning of the Company and the Legal Department.
- Embraces opportunities to learn, is receptive to instructions from supervisor(s) concerning specific assignments and general policies, and accepts responsibility for and ownership of tasks to which they are assigned.
- Asks questions (including exercising good judgment regarding when to involve their supervisor), responds well to constructive criticism, and realistically manages expectations.
Must Haves
- Qualified lawyer (England & Wales, or US)
- 3-6 years of law firm and/or equivalent inâhouse experience at a consumer product, media/entertainment company, or a technology company
- Proven ability to accept and action instructions concerning both specific assignments and general policies.
- Demonstrative track record of ownership and accountability for projects, duties, and tasks.
- Is successful at "managing up" including asking questions to seek clarification and alignment on projects and duties, and managing supervisor expectations.
- MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- English fluency is a must; proficiency and/or fluency in additional languages is a plus.
- A passion for the intersection of fashion, entertainment, business, and the law.
