As a customer-focused Security Officer, you will play a vital role in safeguarding our clients\’ assets while creating a safe, professional, and welcoming environment. You will be assigned to a higher education campus in Wollongong, where delivering exceptional customer service is just as important as maintaining site security.
Your responsibilities will include regular patrols, managing incidents, and engaging positively with staff, students, and visitors. This role requires outstanding communication skills, attention to detail, and a proactive, customer-first attitude.
You will work on a 24/7 rotating roster, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Responsibilities and duties
- Conduct regular foot patrols to ensure the safety and security of the premises, requiring physical stamina and alertness
- Deliver high service performance standards while continuously improving operational efficiency
- Respond swiftly and professionally to workplace emergencies and incidents
- Communicate clearly and effectively with Police and Emergency Services for any response requirements
- Operate control room systems, including CCTV, access control, duress alarms, and intercoms
- Conduct site safety inspections and mitigate security-related risks
- Manage incidents to achieve the safest and most effective outcomes
- Proactively reduce risk and enhance overall site safety
- Work effectively with a team in a collaborative approach
- Operate access control systems and monitor entry/exit points
- Maintain accurate communication logs and detailed security reports
- Provide excellent customer service and engage professionally with campus users
- Collaborate effectively with team members to support site security objectives
- Utilise electronic security systems to monitor and protect the site
- Support event security and crowd control as required
- Perform car parking compliance duties in line with site policies
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety, and ensure your actions do not adversely affect the health, safety, or wellbeing of others, in line with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) obligations
- Apply conflict resolution skills to de-escalate, manage, and resolve disputes effectively
- Demonstrate proficiency in computer systems, including Email, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
- Current NSW Security Licence (1A)
- Ability to drive a utility vehicle and golf cart
- Flexibility to work a 24/7 rotating roster across seven days
- Unrestricted NSW Driver Licence
- Current RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) competency card
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Mental Health First Aid (or willingness to obtain)
- Working with Children Check (valid and current)
- Traffic Control Card (or willingness to obtain)
- Willingness to learn SEINS or other infringement systems (training provided)
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Professional personal presentation
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
- Willingness to obtain any additional role-required qualifications
- Intermediate computer skills, including Email, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
