The Role
This role offers the chance to make a real impact, telling vital stories from the heart of Queensland. You’ll be part of a supportive team committed to high-quality, public interest journalism – and you’ll get to live in a region with a strong sense of community, a vibrant lifestyle, and access to some of Australia’s most iconic landscapes
We’re looking for a passionate and curious rural journalist to join our rural reporting team in Rockhampton, Australia\’s beef capital. This is an exciting opportunity to cover the stories that matter to regional communities – from agriculture and climate to innovation and the people shaping the bush.
The Job
Working as part of a specialist team of reporters, you will be responsible for:
- Creating rural and primary industry content for multiple platforms to engage local and national audiences.
- Preparing and presenting audio content for the daily Rural Report and Country Hour radio programs.
- Using your expertise to inform the local and national audience about Australia’s rural and primary industries.
- Supporting your local bureau on major news events and collaborating with colleagues on shared projects.
- Contributing to planning and commissioning processes to develop and distribute new content ideas to achieve strong reach and engagement with audiences.
The role involves travelling in remote locations, as required.

About You
An experienced journalist, you\’ll have an in-depth understanding of the issues facing rural and remote Australia, with a strong understanding of rural industries and regional issues that affect and interest the local audience. You work collaboratively to create interesting and innovative stories.
Your Skills And Experience Include
- Experience sourcing stories, analysing information and sound judgement and editorial skills.
- An in-depth understanding of rural, resources and regional issued on a local, national and international level.
- Demonstrated creativity to in story construction and delivery.
- Experience in live presentations and broadcasts is welcome.
