We are looking for a Tax Accountant with specialist tax knowledge to join our growing outsourced accountancy team. In this role, you’ll serve as the go-to tax expert across our portfolio of SME, startup, and owner-managed business clients. You will provide clear, actionable advice on corporation tax, VAT, and personal tax, while identifying tax planning opportunities and efficiencies for ambitious founders. You’ll also bring the flexibility to step in and cover broader small business and startup advisory queries when needed—guiding clients on early-stage financial best practice, accounting setup, and formation considerations.
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Leadership: Act as the specialist tax lead for a portfolio of SME and startup clients, delivering clear advice on UK corporation tax, VAT, and personal tax.
- Review & Compliance: Support and review tax computations and returns to ensure complete accuracy and statutory compliance.
- Tax Planning: Identify tax planning opportunities, reliefs, and allowances tailored to small businesses and owner-managed structures.
- Client Engagement: Serve as a trusted point of contact for tax queries, translating complex technical tax concepts into simple, practical advice for non-specialist founders.
- Advisory Cover: Provide cover for general small business and startup advisory queries when required, offering advice on accounting setup, formation, and financial best practices.
- Legislative Oversight: Stay up to date on changes to UK tax legislation and proactively share updates or risks with clients and the internal delivery team.
- Process & Support: Help onboard new clients, advise on tax-efficient business structures, and help create internal templates, guidance, and tools to elevate the entire team’s output.
What We Are Looking For
- Professional Background: Part-qualified or fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CTA, or ATT) with specialist technical knowledge in UK SME tax.
- Relevant Experience: Proven track record advising SMEs, startups, or owner-managed businesses—ideally within an accountancy practice or an Accountancy-as-a-Service environment.
- Broad Advisory Aptitude: Technical strength in UK corporation tax, VAT, and personal tax, alongside the confidence to handle broader small business/startup queries when covering team members.
- Exceptional Communicator: Able to explain complex tax concepts clearly, concisely, and confidently to entrepreneurs and non-finance professionals.
- Tech-Savvy: Comfortable navigating modern accounting and tax platforms (e.g., Xero, Sage) and proficient with Excel/Google Sheets.
- Collaborative & Organized: Highly organized, adept at managing competing client priorities, and energized by working cross-functionally in a fast-scaling company.
