About The Role
My client is looking for a Senior or Principal Drainage Engineer to join their team in London, in support of the growing workload within the infrastructure engineering services capability.
The Land Development Team has an established track record delivering technically demanding projects in the Strategic Land, development, building and highway infrastructure sectors.
This work ranges from complex residential led / Commercial mixed use masterplan redevelopments to planned new communities and challenging Central London redevelopments.
As a result of their current workload and to support a growing team, they are seeking a technically excellent, motivated individual with experience of designing highway below ground drainage (both building and highways) and highway infrastructure. You will report directly to the Associate / Associate Director for Land Development and will work with the below ground drainage team currently located in Nottingham and the infrastructure team in London to provide support to the Land Development and Buildings teams.

The company operates a flexible working policy. However, you will be expected to provide on-site support to the team in London and remote teamwork with the Nottingham and Exeter teams.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leading and providing technical support on the design, quality assurance and delivery of strategic flooding and below ground drainage and highway infrastructure related projects in support of the Land Development and Building Structures Teams.
- Understanding, supporting and managing clients’ needs with high quality, cost effective engineering solutions delivered to programme and budget.
- Representing the company externally in project delivery, business development and marketing.
- Managing multiple concurrent work streams to deliver projects on programme and within budget.
- Line management, mentoring and leading the technical development of the below drainage team in London and in the Nottingham Office.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- A Consultancy or Development background with a balance of private and public sector work. You will contribute to the delivery of concept studies and strategies with hands-on design, leading to planning applications or construction drawing issue. You will have proven experience and an interest in helping the junior members of the team in producing designs.
- A civil engineering degree and be approaching Chartered status with experience in highway and highway drainage design. You will have strong post-graduate experience in a civil engineering working environment. The range of disciplines that the Land Development team work with is extensive and you will have the opportunity to specialise and develop new skills and expand your existing range of skills.
- The ability to produce masterplans, site appraisals, write reports to support planning applications, design calculations and construction drawings. You will have a knowledge of and ability to deliver highway design, highway drainage principles (layout, parameters, etc.), surface water and foul drainage designs.
- Experienced in the use of MicroDrainage and Civil 3D modelling software together with experience in applying National Highway and Local Authority design guidance.
- The ability to work effectively with colleagues, including more senior and junior staff in producing designs, drawings and reports is essential. You will need to have good written and spoken communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.
- Sound knowledge of relevant design codes such as DMRB, Local Authority Highway and Water Authority Design Guides, and experienced in the preparation of drawings for S104/S185/S106 Drainage Agreement as well as S38 and S278 Highway Agreements.
