Austin Dean Recruitment is currently recruiting experienced PCV SEND Drivers on behalf of the London Borough of Hackney to provide safe, reliable and compassionate transport services for children and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This is a rewarding role where you will make a genuine difference by ensuring vulnerable passengers travel safely to and from schools, colleges, day centres and care settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport children and adults with SEND to and from educational and care settings.
- Operate PCV vehicles in accordance with DVSA regulations, Road Traffic legislation and Council policies.
- Carry out daily vehicle inspections and report any defects promptly.
- Ensure passengers are transported safely, comfortably and with dignity at all times.
- Work closely with SEND Passenger Assistants where required.
- Complete journey records, vehicle checks and incident reports accurately.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain the highest standards of professionalism.
- Deliver excellent customer service to passengers, parents, carers and education providers.
To be considered, you must have:
- Full UK Driving Licence with Category D (PCV) entitlement.
- Valid Driver CPC Qualification Card.
- Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
- Enhanced DBS Certificate (Child and/or Adult Workforce) registered on the DBS Update Service.
- Previous experience driving PCV vehicles.
- Experience transporting vulnerable passengers or within SEND transport is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and health & safety responsibilities.
- Ability to work split shifts during term time.
