Austen & Blake is a premium jewellery brand offering bespoke and made-to-order engagement rings, wedding rings and fine jewellery. Known for its design expertise, personal consultations and craftsmanship, Austen & Blake serves customers through a combination of digital touchpoints and physical showrooms. This role is dedicated exclusively to the Austen & Blake brand.
We are seeking a creative and ambitious Senior Jewellery Designer to join Austen & Blake, reporting to the Head of Design, to design multiple collections to be launched annually. The team has been newly established to elevate the brand in terms of its jewellery design direction and so great care must be taken to ensure all designs have purpose. The Senior Designer role is integral to the way in which the team will operate, with research, design ideation and final designs being produced efficiently with impeccable detail, alongside commercial understanding. The role is hybrid with 3 days based in the London head office, though travel will be required.
How you’ll contribute:
- Carrying out and presenting research, design development and finalised designs in an elevated format that aligns with the brand’s vision
- Creating high level 2D designs through sketching and Adobe Illustrator
- Work closely across wider teams (such as Product Development and CAD) based in the UK and India
- Great understanding of international markets so that all designs have commercial appeal
- Reporting into the Head of Design and also mentoring a team of designers, to develop and further their skill sets
- Ensure project deadlines are adhered to and identify areas of opportunity and innovation
- Create high quality finalised collection and one-off designs suitable to be briefed to the Product Development team
- Design and curate collections that clearly exhibit the design DNA, balancing commercial understanding with creativity
- Close collaboration across teams to drive the brand vision forward and ensuring project efficiency, particularly with Product, Merchandising and Retail teams, based in the UK and India
What we’re looking for:
- Degree in jewellery design with 5+ years in a designer role for fine jewellery in the UK/ US market
- Previous experience of project management and team management
- Fluent in English with strong interpersonal and written communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively and independently
- Superior knowledge of the jewellery manufacturing process and technicalities
- Great understanding of diamonds, gemstones and precious metals
- Passion for the jewellery industry, keeping up to date with trends, innovation and materials
- Solution based mindset
- Proven experience of working to deadlines, working in an efficient and adaptable team environment
- CAD ability preferred
