Aquatic Engineering & Construction, part of Acteon Group, is a global leader in laying and retrieving flexible and semi-rigid products from the seabed in support of the renewables, oil and gas, and telecommunications markets. The company has proven ability in shallow/deep water and extensive experience of off and onshore installations, transpooling, recovery, and decommissioning.

Aquatic are currently looking to hire a QHSE Manager on a full-time, permanent basis. Based at their office in Aberdeen along with overseeing their facility in Peterhead, the QHSE Manager will be responsible for ensuring all QHSE accreditations are in place and sustained. In cooperation with the respective departments, ensure that manufacturing and production processes meet national and international QHSE standards, both internally and by suppliers, continually maintaining an appropriate level of awareness, knowledge, and preparedness across the organisation.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure the implementation and delivery of the Segment QHSE strategy in the company.
  • Ensure that segment and company QHSE objectives are achieved, and strategies implemented.
  • Ensure in cooperation with the respective departments that facilities, tools, and equipment meet national and international QHSE standards and are installed properly.
  • Foster a companywide positive QHSE culture.
  • Produce accurate and timely QHSE information and management reports.
  • Own and maintain the Integrated Management System in line with the requirements of ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct audits with internal and external parties.
  • Evaluate the workplace environment, develop, publish, and update appropriate QHSE policies and procedures.
  • Understand current legislative requirements and update policies and procedures in case of changes, highlighting concerns to the company management.
  • Enforce compliance to QHSE policies, procedures, and legislative requirements throughout the business.
  • Conduct and review risk assessments together with office, workshop, offshore, and project teams to detect potential hazards and plan precautionary measures.
  • Concept and conduct regular workplace inspections on the company premises, mobilization yards, and offshore, reporting findings in the QHSE system and ensuring close-out.
  • Review facility inspection records (e.g. forklifts, crane, roller door).
  • Issue and update safe work instructions and review COSHH requirements.
  • Coordinate training programs for staff and conduct QHSE inductions for all new employees, visitors, and sub-contractors.
  • Provide QHSE review expertise and support during tenders, contract negotiations, and execution of projects.
  • Coordinate and conduct supplier qualifications and performance evaluations in coordination with the purchasing department.
  • Review, follow-up, and close out submissions in the QHSE management system.
  • Investigate incidents and NCRs to determine the root causes using appropriate QHSE methods, identify appropriate corrective and preventive actions, and coordinate their implementation.
  • Moderate containment and solution in case of major NCR.
  • Submit suggestions for continuous improvements including implementation methods and coordinate implementation in case of management approval.
  • Chair and drive QHSE meetings, ensure raised actions are reviewed, communicated, and closed out.
  • Regularly participate in toolbox talks to get a better understanding of the operational situation and foster QHSE engagement.
  • Prepare QHSE documentation and statistical reports by collating data for analysis; summarise information and review trends.

Required

  • Minimum 3 years in health and safety position across multi-site organisations.
  • Good working knowledge of QHSE management systems, current legislation, and best practice.
  • Experience of coaching/mentoring staff.
  • Experience with IMS ISO 9001, 14001, 45001.
  • Certificate in Health and Safety and/or Environmental Science and working toward Diploma.
  • Membership of recognised industry body.
  • Experience and accredited in conducting Audits and Investigations.
  • Excellent β€œcustomer” facing skills e.g. influencing, negotiation, and problem solving.
  • Research skills backed up by effective and practical written procedures.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Pragmatic, systematic, realistic, balanced, and charismatic, trustworthy, and dynamic motivated self-starter.
  • Approachable but resolute with ability to challenge colleagues and manage conflicting views.
  • Attention to accuracy and quality.
  • Comfortable working in an offshore service company environment.
  • Experience and Knowledge of implementation of behavioural safety programmes, occupational health, and mental health strategies.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint as well as QHSE Management System (Intelex, etc).
