Job Title: Heritage Consultant

Location: Remote (with occasional travel for site visits and meetings)

Salary: £25,500 – £27,000 (pro rata for Part Time)

Hours: Full Time (37.5 hours/week) or Part Time (minimum 22.5 hours/week)

Our business has grown significantly in recent years, and we are now looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Heritage Consultant to join our team.

Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated Heritage Consultant to support our expanding portfolio of projects. The successful candidate will provide expert advice on heritage matters, produce high-quality heritage assessments, and engage with clients, planning authorities, and other stakeholders. The role is fully remote, but occasional travel may be required for site visits and meetings.

Key Responsibilities

· Prepare heritage statements, impact assessments, and conservation management plans in line with planning policy and best practices.

· Conduct site visits to assess heritage significance and advise on appropriate development strategies.

· Provide expert advice to clients, planning authorities, and design teams regarding heritage assets.

· Research and analyse historical and planning documents to support project recommendations.

· Engage with local planning authorities, conservation officers, and other key stakeholders.

· Assist in business development by identifying new opportunities and supporting marketing efforts such as attending networking events etc.

· Provide administrative and business support.

· Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of heritage legislation, planning policies, and best practices.

Essential Skills & Experience

· A degree in Heritage, Conservation, Archaeology, or a related discipline.

· Experience working in a heritage consultancy, planning practice, or similar environment.

· Strong knowledge of UK heritage planning policies and legislation, including the NPPF.

· Excellent research and report-writing skills with keen attention to detail.

· Ability to interpret historic maps, architectural drawings, and planning documents.

· Strong communication and client management skills.

· Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.

· Full UK driving licence, with business use insurance, and access to a vehicle.

Desirable Skills

· Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IHBC, CIfA or equivalent) or working towards accreditation.

· Experience with digital heritage tools such as GIS.

· Understanding of sustainable development principles in the historic environment.
