Aurora's modelling team creates and maintains the energy models that underpin our subscription analytics, advisory, and software offerings. Our services are widely used by leading energy companies and investors.
Successful candidates will work in a dynamic, collaborative, and fast-paced environment, helping to advance software development practices within Aurora's modelling team. They will contribute to the design and implementation of scalable, maintainable code and promote modern engineering approaches to support the continuous delivery of Aurora's modelling software. In addition to strong technical skills, candidates will bring a track record of leadership and reliable performance in team-oriented environments. The role offers opportunities to lead technical initiatives, shape architecture, and provide mentorship and guidance to junior colleagues.
The position suits an individual that has 3+ years of experience in software development and is interested in a career in energy market modelling and mathematical optimisation.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs an Energy Modeller you will be an expert in the development of Aurora's modelling software, with some of the following specialist responsibilities:
- Leading the development of features that capture complex market dynamics within Aurora's models
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of the modelling team's agile delivery process
- Driving the application of modern software engineering practices including test-driven development and automated testing
- Identifying and addressing architectural bottlenecks and opportunities to improve scalability and developer experience
- Supporting the development of junior colleagues
Required attributes:
- Relevant degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Economics
- Minimum 3 years of experience in software development in a commercial environment
- Demonstrated competence in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or similar
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and analytical ability
- A deep interest in energy and/or decarbonisation
- Strong interpersonal skills, and a great team player
Desirable attributes:
- Experience in the continuous delivery of large-scale software
- Line management experience
- Experience in the field of mathematical optimization (Linear Programming, Dynamic programming, MIP etc.) in a commercial environment
- Experience working with Dev Ops/CI
