Aurora helps governments, investors, and utilities make billion‑dollar decisions on the journey to net‑zero. Based in Oxford, you will work in a dynamic and growing engineering organisation that builds cloud-based software to track and model power grids around the world. Aurora's models produce some of the most data-intensive outputs in the energy industry - half-hourly, generator-level simulations across 30-year horizons.
As a Software Engineer in the platform team, you will build and own the scaling infrastructure that runs these models in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible, using TypeScript, Python, MySQL and a variety of AWS products. You will work in a small, fast-paced team that releases changes multiple times a day. The successful applicant will be an excellent problem solver, a strong team player who values code review and collaboration, and who possesses a proven ability to take big projects from conception to production. We use AI coding tools to improve productivity and familiarity with modern AI-assisted development is important to us.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, test, and operate the resilient and high-availability infrastructure which runs Aurora's forecast models
- Build tools and platforms that empower engineers, modellers, and analysts across the business
- Contribute to continuously improving how our platform team works
- At least two years professional Python or TypeScript experience in a commercial, team based software environment
- Experience building and maintaining infrastructure with cloud providers (e.g. AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Strong discipline in testing and automation
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud/on-premises environments, including Ansible playbooks for server configuration and patch management
- Genuine interest in the transformation of energy markets and infrastructure
- A relevant degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or Computer Science
