Aurora is seeking a Business Insights Developer to join our growing Data and Insights team in Oxford. This is a mid-level role for someone who can turn business questions into trusted, well-designed insight solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. This role sits within the Data and Insights team, which works closely with business divisions to understand decision-making needs, define meaningful metrics, and deliver actionable insight. It is part of the wider data team, alongside Data Platform Engineers who are responsible for sourcing data, transforming it, and producing trusted gold data products in Microsoft Fabric.
The Data and Insights Developer will partner with business stakeholders and the data platform team to design insight solutions that are scalable, governed, and user-focused. The role will primarily consume curated gold-layer data products and shared semantic models, helping ensure that insight delivery is consistent, performant, and aligned to enterprise data standards. Successful candidates will combine strong analytical thinking with practical Power BI delivery skills, including semantic modelling, DAX, data visualisation, and stakeholder engagement. You should be comfortable working independently on agreed priorities while collaborating closely with colleagues across data engineering, architecture, and business teams to continuously improve how insight is delivered and used.
Key Responsibilities- Business partnering and requirements discovery: Work closely with business divisions to understand decision-making and insight goals, define KPIs, translate requirements into clear user stories, and shape solutions that support better business outcomes.
- Power BI and Fabric solution delivery: Build and maintain high-quality Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models using curated Microsoft Fabric data assets, applying strong visual design, usability, and performance practices.
- Semantic modelling and insight design: Create robust, reusable semantic models and measures that support consistent insight delivery across teams, using sound modelling principles, DAX, and a strong understanding of business definitions.
- Governance, documentation, and adoption: Document insight solutions, data definitions, assumptions, and usage guidance; support adoption; and work within agreed governance standards for workspace management, data access, and solution lifecycle.
- Collaboration with the data platform team: Provide feedback on data quality, modelling needs, and new data and insight requirements so that upstream Fabric gold data products continue to meet business insight needs.
- Continuous improvement: Help improve delivery standards, reusable assets, and ways of working across the Data and Insights team, with a focus on consistency, trust, and maintainability.
- Experience delivering data, insight, and reporting solutions in Power BI, ideally in a mid-level analyst or developer role.
- Strong hands-on skills in Power BI Desktop, Power Query, DAX, report design, and semantic modelling.
- Experience working with Microsoft Fabric or closely related modern Microsoft data platforms, including consumption of curated lakehouse, warehouse, or shared semantic model data.
- Good understanding of data modelling principles such as star schema, measures, dimensions, hierarchies, and reusable business definitions.
- Ability to work with business stakeholders to gather requirements, challenge assumptions, and communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with data quality validation, documentation, and insight and reporting governance practices.
- Comfort working across multiple priorities with strong organisation, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.
- Strong SQL and Excel skills for data exploration, validation, and reconciliation.
- Experience working with Fabric-aligned data and reporting patterns such as shared semantic models, Direct Lake, deployment pipelines, or governed workspace structures.
- Experience reporting on enterprise systems such as Dynamics 365, Salesforce, SAP SuccessFactors, or other SaaS business applications.
- Awareness of Power BI governance concepts including workspace roles, row-level security, endorsement, and lifecycle management.
- Experience with broader Power Platform capabilities such as Power Automate or Power Apps where they support reporting workflows.

- Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
- Local Oxford Discounts
