As an Aurora Night Care Giver, you may help somebody prepare for bed, support them during the night and then help them start their morning. The exact routine will depend on the person and the support they need. You don’t need previous care experience. What matters most is that you’re dependable, patient, comfortable working independently and genuinely want to help people live well at home.

What you’ll actually be doing:
- Getting ready for bed: Helping somebody wash, change, settle comfortably and prepare for the night.
- Support during the night: Being on hand if the client wakes or needs help, reassurance, personal care or practical support.
- Helping someone start their day: Supporting the client to get up, wash and dress in the morning.
- Breakfast and medication: Preparing breakfast and providing appropriate medication support as part of the client’s agreed care plan.
Working overnight means being independent, but not on your own. Overnight Care Givers generally work independently in the client’s home, so you’ll need to feel comfortable taking responsibility, following the care plan and responding calmly when somebody needs you. On-call support is available if you need advice or support during a night shift.

- You don’t need to have worked as a Night Carer or Night Care Assistant before. Aurora provides paid online and in-person training to help you develop the practical skills and confidence you need.
- Kind and patient: You understand that being calm and reassuring can matter just as much as completing a practical task.
- Dependable: Clients and their families need to know the person supporting them overnight will be there when expected.
- Comfortable working independently: You’ll normally be the Care Giver in the client’s home overnight, with on-call support available when needed.
- Willing to travel to the client: You don’t need to drive, but you must be able and willing to travel to the client’s home for the beginning and end of your shift.

- Overnight shifts with regular days off.

- 2-5 Nights of availability: We ask Night Care Givers to be available between two and five nights each week, allowing regular days off to be built into the working pattern.
