A unique opportunity has arisen to join a highly respected British aerospace and defence engineering organisation operating within a complex and precision manufacturing environment. This is a highly visible position supporting major aerospace programmes and working closely with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain and Commercial leadership teams.
We are particularly interested in individuals from aerospace, defence, automotive, production engineering, manufacturing engineering or complex engineered product environments with experience in:
- Should-cost modelling
- Manufacturing cost analysis
- BOM/routing analysis
- Product costing
- Manufacturing operations
- Supplier cost analysis
This is not a pure finance role. The successful candidate will analyse how complex engineered products are manufactured, routed, assembled and sourced, building accurate cost models that directly support major commercial and operational decision-making. Candidates with a practical understanding of how engineered products are built, costed and manufactured will be especially well suited to this opportunity.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop, validate and maintain detailed manufacturing cost models and pricing structures for customer bids, proposals and commercial activity
- Perform should-cost modelling across manufactured components, assemblies and supplier quotations
- Analyse Bills of Materials (BoMs), manufacturing routings, tooling, labour standards and operational cost drivers to improve costing accuracy
- Support estimating, bid and proposal activity through robust cost justification and manufacturing analysis
- Carry out variance analysis comparing estimated vs actual manufacturing costs to improve future pricing accuracy
- Work closely with Engineering, Production, Operations and Supply Chain teams to ensure operational realities are accurately reflected within cost models
- Support supplier cost analysis, benchmarking and negotiation activities alongside sourcing and procurement teams
- Identify commercial, operational and manufacturing risks within costing assumptions and pricing models
- Drive continuous improvement across costing, estimating and operational analysis processes, including SAP S4/HANA optimisation initiatives
- Contribute to improving data quality, pricing consistency and operational decision-making across the business
