Are you a senior Customs and Indirect Tax professional looking for a genuinely strategic, global role where your expertise influences real business decisions, not just compliance? A highly regarded FTSE 250 manufacturing group is recruiting a Global Customs & Indirect Tax Manager to take ownership of customs and indirect tax governance across a complex international footprint. This is a visible, value-adding role sitting at the intersection of tax, supply chain, finance and senior leadership.

The Opportunity

This is not a transactional role. You will act as the global subject matter expert for customs and indirect tax, shaping policy, managing risk, and identifying opportunities to improve profitability and working capital across the business. You'll partner closely with senior stakeholders across supply chain, finance, procurement and commercial teams, helping to design efficient cross-border operating models and supporting strategic initiatives such as new market entry, supply chain redesign and product launches.

Governance & Oversight

  • Establish, implement and maintain global customs and indirect tax policies, controls and frameworks
  • Develop efficient, accurate and compliant customs processes across the group
  • Oversee customs brokers, tax advisors and third-party providers globally
  • Monitor regulatory developments and advise leadership on risks and opportunities

Business Partnering & Advisory

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders on customs and indirect tax implications
  • Support the design of efficient cross-border supply chains (duties, VAT/GST, excise)
  • Partner with leadership on strategic projects and transformation initiatives
  • Ensure robust global risk management and compliance processes
  • Lead or support audits and compliance reviews, driving corrective actions
  • Manage interactions with customs and tax authorities during audits or disputes
  • Identify and deliver duty and tax optimisation opportunities (FTAs, special regimes, VAT recovery)
  • Improve cash flow through effective indirect tax and duty planning
  • Support technology-enabled solutions (ERP, trade compliance systems)

Training & Capability Building

  • Deliver training and guidance to business stakeholders
  • Build awareness of compliance risks and value opportunities across the organisation

You’ll be an experienced customs and indirect tax professional with:

  • Deep knowledge of global customs regulations, VAT/GST, excise and trade compliance
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to link regulation to commercial outcomes
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing capability
  • Experience working in complex, international organisations (industry, in-house, or advisory background welcomed)
