An outstanding permanent position has arisen with a top-tier Aerospace / Engineering organisation based in Uxbridge, West London / Middlesex.

As Engineering Manager, you will lead a large and talented group of engineers, ensuring that products and services are engineered to meet requirements. This will include the development, verification, and ongoing support of complex subsystems.

The role will help prioritise the engineering team activities and resources in order to get projects to completion within schedule and to an agreed level of maturity. You’ll support the programme management function in the identification and management of risk throughout the lifecycle, ensuring that the project deliverables meet both business and customer requirements.

You’ll also develop the capabilities of engineers by coaching and sharing your knowledge, promoting continuous professional development and creating an environment that encourages innovation and continual improvement. As a senior engineering team member, you’ll communicate effectively and professionally with internal colleagues, external customers and subcontractors.

  • Manage a team of engineers including Principal Engineers, Senior Engineers to Graduate Engineers.
  • Motivate all team members and ensure that a suitably qualified resource profile exists.
  • Identify appropriate requirements for training and development, securing budget to deliver this.
  • Ensure effective conversations are happening at all levels within the function to drive effective functional performance.
  • Own and drive forward the strategies to maintain and develop the function/capabilities skills and knowledge.
  • Own the functions continuous improvement plans and balance the functions resources with the ongoing project needs.
  • Provide support to your teams, leveraging your previous experience in the systems, mechanical, software and/or electronics domains.

Skills & experience - Engineering Manager

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Maths, Physics, or similar, holding Chartered status with an appropriate institution.
  • Practiced at leading and managing teams of engineers, ideally across disciplines.
  • Experienced at managing teams made up of people at Graduate to Principal Engineer levels.
  • Experience of supporting design / delivery teams to develop complex, technical solutions in accordance with plans and processes, ideally within defence.
  • Experience of working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders of varying seniorities.
  • Proficiency in working across the engineering lifecycle and experience of engineering gate reviews and the associated assessment of design compliance.
  • Ability to challenge existing processes and improve workflows.
  • Analytical thinker able to develop and communicate difficult/new concepts.
  • Ability to cope with complex and uncertain situations.
