An outstanding opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Real Estate Debt professional to take on a highly visible Director-level Asset Management position supporting one of the world's leading global investment banks in London.

This is a senior, client-facing role providing exposure to a sophisticated portfolio of UK and European Commercial Real Estate loans, combining hands-on CRE debt asset management with leadership responsibility, senior stakeholder exposure and genuine influence.

Working closely with senior professionals across Asset Management, Origination, Credit and Legal, you will play a pivotal role in the ongoing management of performing and more complex loan exposures throughout their lifecycle.

You will become a senior member of the relationship and trusted deputy to the senior relationship lead, taking significant responsibility for the portfolio while providing day-to-day leadership and technical oversight to other CRE Asset Management professionals.

The position requires strong CRE debt expertise, sound commercial judgement, leadership capability and the gravitas to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.

The role

You will take significant responsibility for the ongoing management of an institutional portfolio of Commercial Real Estate loans, including:

  • Managing and overseeing CRE loans secured against UK and European real estate
  • Acting as a senior day-to-day point of contact for the client, working closely with its Asset Management, Credit, Origination and Legal teams
  • Maintaining direct relationships with borrowers, sponsors, facility agents and other transaction parties
  • Reviewing and assessing borrower requests including waivers, amendments, extensions, consents and drawdowns
  • Analysing property and loan performance, including cash flows, NOI/NCF, valuations, LTV, ICR/DSCR, debt yield and covenant compliance
  • Monitoring business plans, budgets, leasing activity, capital expenditure and development/construction progress
  • Reviewing and interpreting facility agreements, intercreditor agreements and other relevant finance documentation
  • Partnering with Origination teams during the transition of newly originated loans into ongoing Asset Management
  • Identifying deteriorating performance, emerging credit risks, covenant issues and other loan-specific triggers
  • Managing significant and event-driven loan matters including refinancings, restructurings, business-plan changes and potential exit strategies
  • Reviewing construction draws, funding requests, waterfalls and associated calculations
  • Producing and reviewing quarterly and ad-hoc asset, portfolio and management reporting for senior stakeholders
  • Providing leadership, guidance and technical oversight to colleagues, reviewing and challenging analysis and recommendations where appropriate
  • Helping drive consistently high standards across portfolio management, credit analysis, reporting and transaction execution

You will have the autonomy to analyse complex situations, challenge assumptions and make well-reasoned recommendations, while managing competing priorities within a sophisticated institutional environment.

What we're looking for

We are particularly interested in candidates who have developed their careers within an investment bank, commercial bank, real estate debt fund, private credit investor, institutional lender or leading CRE debt asset-management platform.

Previous investment-bank experience would be highly relevant, although strong candidates from other institutional CRE lending environments are equally encouraged to apply.

You may currently be operating at Director, Vice President, Associate Director, Senior Asset Manager or Portfolio Manager level, or be an experienced AVP/Senior Associate ready to take the next step.

Relevant backgrounds include: Commercial Real Estate Finance | Real Estate Debt | CRE Lending | Debt Asset Management | Portfolio Management | Real Estate Credit | Private Credit

Key experience

  • At least 5 years' relevant experience within Commercial Real Estate lending, credit or debt asset management
  • Experience managing or monitoring institutional CRE loans following origination
  • Strong understanding of CRE credit and underwriting principles
  • Experience analysing property, borrower and loan-level financial information
  • Strong understanding of CRE finance documentation, including facility agreements and associated transaction documents
  • Experience dealing directly with borrowers, sponsors and senior stakeholders
  • Exposure to material loan events such as waivers, amendments, extensions, consents and drawdowns
  • Strong understanding of CRE credit metrics including LTV, ICR/DSCR, debt yield and NOI/NCF
  • Strong analytical and financial-modelling capability with intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Strong commercial and credit judgement, with the confidence to analyse complex situations and make well-reasoned recommendations
  • The confidence and gravitas to operate effectively with senior stakeholders in a demanding institutional environment
  • Leadership capability, whether through formal team management, mentoring, technical oversight or coordinating more junior colleagues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience of structured CRE lending, development or construction finance, transitional assets, senior/mezzanine debt, restructurings or metrics including IRR and NPV would be advantageous.

We would not expect every applicant to have experience across all of these areas.

Why consider it?

This is an unusually strong opportunity for an experienced CRE debt professional to combine hands-on portfolio and credit responsibility with leadership exposure inside a major global investment-bank environment.

You will work close to the client, borrowers and underlying portfolio, gaining first-hand exposure to how complex institutional CRE loans are monitored and managed throughout their lifecycle.

For someone ambitious, analytical and commercially minded, the opportunity offers:

  • Exceptional exposure to a leading global investment bank
  • Responsibility for a sophisticated UK and European CRE debt portfolio
  • Significant borrower, sponsor and senior stakeholder exposure
  • Exposure to complex credit decisions, waivers, amendments and material loan events
  • A highly visible position within an important institutional mandate
  • The opportunity to become the trusted deputy to the senior relationship lead
  • Genuine influence across portfolio management and the wider client relationship
  • Meaningful scope to develop further leadership responsibility
  • A highly credible platform for longer-term progression within institutional real estate debt

This opportunity will particularly suit someone who enjoys being close to the detail, understands both the numbers and the relationships behind a CRE loan portfolio, and wants to become an integral senior member of a high-profile institutional mandate.

If you have a background in Commercial Real Estate Finance, CRE Lending, Real Estate Debt, Debt Asset Management, Portfolio Management or Real Estate Credit, we would be very interested in hearing from you.
