Aureos are looking for a General Foreman. The General Foreman plays a key role in delivering highways upgrade works across the road network for Liverpool City Council. The role oversees day-to-day site activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to specification. Typical works include road surfacing, drainage, kerbing, footway works, lining and signing, street lighting, traffic signals, and associated civil engineering tasks. You will coordinate operatives and subcontractors, maintain site standards, drive progress on programme, and ensure compliance with relevant safety, technical and quality safety requirements.
Primary tasks and duties:
- Site Leadership & Coordination
- Lead daily site operations for surfacing, drainage, kerbing, ducting, street lighting, lining/signing and other highways activities.
- Allocate labour, plant and subcontractors, ensuring resources are used efficiently.
- Deliver clear daily briefings, task-specific instructions and ensure operatives understand planned works.
- Health, Safety & Environment
- Maintain a safe working environment in line with company and LCC requirements.
- Carry out site inspections, record findings, and enforce safe systems of work.
- Ensure compliance with RAMS, permits, traffic management arrangements, environmental controls and temporary works requirements.
- Quality & Technical Delivery
- Ensure works are delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications, and the Specification for Highway Works.
- Check workmanship standards for surfacing, drainage installation, kerb lines, reinstatement, signing/lining, lighting and signal installation.
- Support engineers with setting out checks and quality records.
- Progress & Programme
- Monitor daily progress against programme and escalate delays or risks early.
- Coordinate with Site Manager and Engineer to sequence works effectively and minimise disruption to the public highway.
- Maintain daily site diaries, labour/plant records and photographs.
- Stakeholder & Interface Management
- Liaise with LCC representatives, supervisors, utility providers and third parties as required.
- Work collaboratively with local residents, businesses and road users to minimise disruption.
- Support positive relationships with subcontractors and supply chain partners.
- Materials, Plant & Logistics
- Ensure correct materials are ordered, delivered and stored appropriately.
- Oversee plant utilisation and ensure equipment is operated safely and efficiently.
- Check that traffic management is installed and maintained as required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications and Training
- Essential: CSCS (Supervisory level). SSSTS or SMSTS. Full UK driving licence.
- Desirable: NRSWA Supervisor. First Aid at Work.
Knowledge
- Essential: Significant experience as a General Foreman/Site Supervisor on highway construction or maintenance projects. Strong working knowledge of surfacing operations, drainage construction, kerbing, ducting, street furniture, street lighting, and traffic signal works. Understanding of TM requirements, SHW standards and typical local authority specifications. Experience managing subcontractors and mixed labour teams.
- Desirable: Experience delivering projects for a local authority highways client (preferably LCC). Knowledge of NEC contracts.
Skills and abilities
- Essential: Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct and motivate site teams. Good communication and coordination with engineers, managers, and client representatives. Ability to identify issues early and support practical solutions. Strong focus on safety, quality and efficiency. Well organised with good record-keeping and reporting capability.
- Desirable: Experience delivering projects for a local authority highways client (preferably LCC). Knowledge of NEC contracts.
