Aureos are looking for an experienced senior construction professional to act as Designated Individual for Temporary Works, providing leadership, governance, and assurance across the whole infrastructure business working all over the UK. The role will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining effective Temporary Works Procedures, ensuring compliance with BS 5975 and CDM requirements, and supporting safe, consistent delivery across projects.

The authority and capability to oversee temporary works risk management, appoint and support competent Temporary Works Coordinators and Supervisors, review contractor and subcontractor procedures, lead audits and inspections, and challenge project teams where standards are not being met. Working closely with operational, engineering, and site teams to maintain visibility of temporary works activity, improve process compliance, and reinforce a culture of accountability, competence, and safe delivery.

Responsibilities

  • As a senior leader you will be requiring strong construction experience, sound understanding of temporary works governance, excellent communication skills, and the independence to make safety-led decisions in the interests of the business, its people, and its projects.
  • Implementing TW processes to maintain compliance and adopt best practice.
  • Encouraging innovation and continuous improvement to improve productivity, safety and achieve high quality outputs for customers.
  • Providing the leadership team with details of the risks and opportunities associated with TW within the business.
  • Ensuring compliance with Legislation, Standards and industry best practice.
  • Evaluating the impact of changes to Legislation, Standards and industry practice to understand the potential business impact and determine the measures required to become compliant.
  • Ensuring processes are in place for maintaining accurate and comprehensive records relating to the competence of TW staff/ contractors.
  • Ensuring that adequate surveillance activities are carried out to provide confidence that the TW function is compliant.
  • Ensure that processes are in place for the briefing and understanding of relevant TW related Legislation, Standards and industry best practice.
  • TW lead and business senior representative for all TW activities.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient delivery of TWD assurance within the business.
  • Escalating points of TW risk to the Exec board.
  • Monitor staff development/ training requirements.
  • Conduct Monthly TW Inspections.

Qualifications and experience required

  • CEng status within relevant Engineering Council Approved Body (IMechE/ ICE/ IET/ PWI).
  • A sound knowledge of safety and performance standards relating to proven ability to manage TW activities in a business environment.
  • A sound knowledge of technical standards relating to proven ability to manage TW activities in a business environment.
  • CEM/ Engineering Manager level competence.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence.
  • Experience of Requirements Management.
  • Experience of CDM Regulations.
