Our client, a leading global healthcare manufacturing business, has retained us to recruit an Engineering Manager to join their Worksop-based facility. The Role:

As the Engineering Manager, you will be the primary point of contact within the Engineering team, ensuring targets and objectives are met with maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness. You will be responsible for overseeing equipment maintenance, breakdown response, and optimising the engineering process while maintaining high service and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and motivate the Maintenance & Engineering team, overseeing their day-to-day activities while managing departmental and company-wide projects.
  2. Plan and schedule resources to meet production and quality targets.
  3. Handle absences and disciplinary matters, ensuring continuous staff development through training, coaching, and performance reviews.
  4. Act as the key decision-maker for production outside of office hours.
  5. Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), driving cost-reduction initiatives.
  6. Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Regulatory, and Environmental standards.
  7. Implement continuous improvement strategies and optimise operational efficiency.
  8. Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and site cleanliness.
  9. Collaborate with departments including Production, Warehousing, Distribution, Quality, HR, and Marketing.
  10. Assist in budget preparation and oversee site security and equipment stock levels.
  11. Participate in audits and ensure adherence to prescribed safe systems of work.
  12. Provide out-of-hours support when required.

To Be Successful:

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  1. 2-3 years of team-leading experience in an FMCG manufacturing environment.
  2. Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance, with expertise in packaging, textile machinery, and injection moulding.
  3. Electro-mechanical engineering background.
  4. Experience working with high-speed rotating machinery.
  5. Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment/systems.
  6. Knowledge of Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality Regulations.
  7. Adopts a “right first time” approach to all tasks.
  8. Able to gather and interpret information effectively.
  9. Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  10. Strong financial awareness and budget management understanding.
  11. Demonstrated leadership from within the team.
  12. Strong planning, organising, and problem-solving skills.
  13. Ability to monitor and lead operations while maintaining a hands-on approach.
  14. Strong coaching skills.
  15. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, positive characteristics, and supportive behaviour.
  16. Proven improvement and change management skills.
  17. Ability to drive operational efficiency and cost-saving initiatives.

Desirable Skills:

  1. Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques such as 6 Sigma (Black or Green Belt), 5S principles, Kaizen, and project management skills.
  2. Good Health & Safety knowledge, including Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  3. Previous management experience in an engineering or manufacturing setting.
  4. Experience with Ethylene Oxide (ETO) Plant operations.
  5. Maintenance expertise in electrical moulding machines.
