Your Role, Your Impact

As a Building Service Engineer, you will join our team at a leading property managing agent. This role will play a pivotal part in supporting our strategic and operational response to the Energy Act implications for assets connected to Heat Networks, before broadening focus to the wider portfolio of high‑risk residential buildings. The successful candidate will bring strong mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineering expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders to ensure compliance, operational efficiency, and robust supplier engagement. This role provides oversight aligned with the Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme (HNTAS) – Milestone 2 requirements for existing buildings. This role reports to the Technical Manager – Energy and is part of a central technical team supporting operational excellence across the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Energy Act & Heat Network Compliance: Lead the review, assessment, and implementation of requirements arising from the Energy Act as they relate to Heat Network assets. Provide technical oversight of plant condition, metering, performance, and compliance obligations. Support the documentation, reporting, and assurance activities required to meet HNTAS Milestone 2 for existing properties.
  • Asset Management – High‑Risk Residential Buildings: Undertake M&E‑focused evaluations of key building assets within high‑risk residential settings. Develop recommendations to improve safety, resilience, and compliance across building services. Work with property managers, building safety teams, and specialist consultants to prioritise remedial or improvement works.
  • Technical Support & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a subject matter expert for M&E systems across the asset portfolio. Provide clear, accessible technical advice to non‑technical colleagues, residents, and suppliers. Coordinate with external contractors to ensure service quality, performance, and contractual compliance.
  • Operational Oversight & Continuous Improvement: Support the development of asset improvement plans, maintenance strategies, and operational standards. Contribute to internal processes that enhance building performance, energy efficiency, and resident experience. Ensure accurate record keeping, documentation, and reporting across all assigned assets.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Essential: HNC or HND qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline. Strong knowledge of building M&E systems and their operational requirements. Experience working within property management, facilities management, building services, or a related environment. Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues for non‑technical audiences. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external consultants, and suppliers.
  • Desirable: Experience with heat networks, district heating systems, or energy compliance regulations. Working knowledge of high‑risk residential building environments, including building safety legislation. Understanding of asset lifecycle planning and building services risk management.
