Job Summary

August is seeking an experienced and strategic Real Estate Director to lead our expanding real estate function across Europe. You will oversee all real‑estate activities, including acquisitions, development, design, procurement, and asset management, ensuring every home we acquire, renovate and manage meets August’s brand standards for quality, beauty, and craftsmanship. As August continues to grow, purchasing more homes each year and managing increasingly complex renovation projects, this role will be instrumental in strengthening our operational excellence, optimising processes, and ensuring that every project is delivered on brand, on time, and on budget . This position offers hybrid working, with a mix of time at our London office and remote work.

Role and Responsibilities

• Strategic Oversight: Lead the entire real‑estate function: acquisition, renovation, design, and procurement, ensuring all functions operate seamlessly and cohesively.
• Leadership: Manage and mentor the Heads of Acquisition, Development, Design, and Program, fostering collaboration, accountability, and high performance across teams.
• Project Delivery: Ensure all real‑estate projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest August quality and design standards.
• Portfolio Expansion: Drive the acquisition of larger, more complex properties across Europe, ensuring sound investment decisions and alignment with August’s brand and portfolio strategy.
• Process Improvement: Build scalable processes for budgeting, scheduling, and quality control to support the company’s growing development volume.
• Build for Growth: Strengthen the team’s structure, systems, and resilience to enable August to confidently take on more projects, larger sites, and deliver more homes each year, without ever compromising quality or efficiency.
• Budget Management: Oversee over €70–100 M in annual real‑estate investment, with projects often exceeding €1 M in renovation alone, ensuring robust financial control and efficient resource allocation.
• Property Maintenance: As August’s portfolio grows, establish and oversee a structure for ongoing property maintenance and asset management, in collaboration with the Home Operations team.

About You

• Extensive Experience: 15+ years in real‑estate development, construction management, or property investment, ideally within the residential or hospitality sector.
• Strategic Leader: Proven track record in building and leading multi‑disciplinary teams across acquisition and construction.
• Operational Excellence: Strong expertise in budgeting, project delivery, and process improvement for large‑scale renovation projects (€1 M+).
• Design & Quality Orientation: A refined understanding of architecture and design, with a keen eye for detail and commitment to brand standards.
• Cross‑Market Knowledge: Experience managing projects across multiple European markets is a plus.
• Analytical & Pragmatic: Strong financial acumen, able to assess project feasibility, analyse risk, and drive data‑informed decisions.
• Collaborative Mindset: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to build trust and alignment across teams and external partners.
• Adaptability: Thrives in a fast‑paced, scaling environment with a hands‑on and solution‑oriented approach.
• Fluency in English is required; additional European languages are an advantage.
