We are looking for a Radiological Protection Technician to work in our site in Port Clarence, Middlesbrough. This is a full-time role paying up to £45,000 plus excellent benefits.
About the role:
As a Radiological Protection Technician you will be responsible for the coordination of radioactive waste, radioactive protection monitoring, compliance surveys and conducting environmental cleaning activities.
What you'll be doing:
- Undertake and support radiological protection monitoring duties across the site.
- Manage the servicing of controlled area change rooms.
- Undertake radiological compliance surveys.
- Maintain and manage site stock to ensure compliance with the site’s permit and other regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and accuracy recording and interpreting data with ability to implement actions based on results.
- Perform and coordinate environmental cleaning and contamination control activities to ensure radiation doses are maintained ALARP.
- Collect samples from routine air monitoring and assess using scintillation counting instruments.
- Assist in coordinating plant and radiological equipment maintenance (reactive and preventative) including inspections to ensure safety and compliance of all site activities.
- Comply with regulatory and organisational requirements.
- Be responsible for the correct use, testing of, monitoring of radiological protection equipment and for the radiological protection of the operations team.
What we are looking for:
- NVQ Level 3 Health Physics
- Experience in the field of radiological protection.
- Proven ability to use radiation detection and monitoring instrumentation and equipment.
- IOSH Working Safely preferred.
- HNC or above in Engineering Discipline or Chemistry (desirable)
- Experience in a nuclear facility or a related field
- Ability to use, coordinate maintenance of radiological instrumentation and equipment.
- Target and data driven decision making.
- Experience of the waste industry would be advantageous.
- Strong technical knowledge with proven initiative-taking critical thinking skills and ability to give informed instruction to resolution.
- Good and practical knowledge of processing compliance and enforcement in a nuclear or waste industry.
