The role
As a Trainee Financial Accountant, you will support the financial reporting team in preparing accurate and timely financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. This role provides hands-on experience with financial processes, reporting systems, regulatory and tax requirements — making it an excellent opportunity to develop a solid foundation in financial accounting and reporting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist with the preparation of the annual financial statements for all operating companies.
- Support the preparation of monthly financial statements for all operating companies, including analysis of programme contribution and overheads.
- Post month end accruals and prepayments.
- Assist UK & US Accounting Managers with other month end tasks.
- Assist with monthly P&L analytical reviews.
- Analyze and comment on variances to budget.
- Maintain Fixed Asset Registers.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations (weekly, monthly, quarterly) and work with the UK and US Accounting Managers to identify opportunities and risks.
- Assist with the preparation of the monthly analysis and accrual of indirect costs and liaise with FP&A and Commercial teams.
- Work with the AP team to ensure transactions are posted accurately and timely.
- Assist on UK and US tax matters (including US Federal and State reporting).
- Assist with queries from external auditors and tax advisors.
- Complete statistical reporting for operating entities.
- Work on ad hoc projects to deliver system and process efficiencies and enhancements.
- Any other ad-hoc duties as required.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor\’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a numerate and analytical field. AAT qualified applicants looking to progress their careers will be considered.
- Some previous experience in a finance functional role would be advantageous.
- Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build good relationships across departments.
- Comfortable with presenting findings to stakeholders at various levels of the organisation.
- Self-starter, proactively seeks out new opportunities to improve our business and ways of working and is comfortable with change.
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good understanding of Office 365 including MS Word, Excel, SharePoint and Outlook.
