An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a forward-thinking rural practice with a commitment to teamwork and staff development. We are seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join our nursing team due to our Nurse Associate undertaking her conversion course to be a Practice Nurse.

We believe that the right applicant will have at least 3-5 years of healthcare assistant experience and be ready to move forward to expand their skills and take care of our patients with our support. Perhaps as importantly, we are looking for someone who will fit into our great team at Audlem!

Main duties of the job

You would be supporting our practice nurses and other clinicians to look after our patients. We are flexible in terms of what skills you currently have and we would be willing to support you to develop those skills.

About us

We are a multi-professional Practice team of 4 GPs, 1 Nurse practitioner, 1 Practice Nurse, a Nurse Associate, a Pharmacist, a Physiotherapist, a Social Prescriber, a phlebotomist and our administration support staff. We are also a training practice for both GP trainees and Medical Students.

Job responsibilities

The Post holder should have:

  • Experience of working as a Healthcare Assistant
  • A calm disposition and an ability to work well as a team member
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • IT Skills
  • Be adaptable to change
  • Genuine interest in the aims of the practice
  • Self-motivated in personal development
  • A flexible approach to working extra hours to cover staff sickness and holidays
Core tasks and functions:
  • D-Dimer tests
  • Blood tests as required
  • ECGs
  • Lithium bloods and weight checks
  • Mini mental state assessments (MMSE)
  • Stocking measurements/splint fitting
  • Urine testing
  • Ordering of stock and equipment
  • Clinical room checks
  • Store cupboard maintenance
  • Infection control cleaning
  • Emergency drug cupboard checks
  • Equipment audit of clinical rooms
  • Annual stock take
Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • GCSE English and Maths grade A - C
  • Qualified NVQ level 2 in health and social care or equivalent
  • NVQ level 3 in health and social care

Experience:

  • 3 - 5 years Healthcare assistant experience
  • Experience of working in a GP practice
