Overview

We are a leading manufacturer of high-quality hi-fi components, seeking an experienced Electronics Engineer to join our UK-based Research and Development (R&D) team in Cambridgeshire.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in reviewing, critiquing, and improving electronic designs and prototypes to ensure the highest quality standards. Furthermore, a candidate that can bring innovation and design experience to the role will be favourable.

This is a hybrid position, requiring at least two days per week onsite in Cambridgeshire.

Key Responsibilities

Design Review and Evaluation

  • Analyse and critique circuit schematics and PCB layouts for functionality, compliance, and adherence to best practices.
  • Assess physical samples of electronic components for quality through measurement and testing.
  • Provide detailed feedback to the R&D team to drive design improvements.

Quality Assurance

  • Awareness of relevant certifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct objective and subjective performance evaluations of prototypes to identify potential issues and improvements.
  • Functional testing to evaluate user experience and contribute to software quality assurance.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the internal technical team consisting of electronics engineers, software engineers, industrial design, and mechanical engineers in the UK and China to align on design goals and project timelines.
  • Communicate findings effectively across teams to facilitate improvements.

Travel

  • Travel to the facilities in China as needed to collaborate on projects and oversee quality control processes.

Requirements

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the audio or electronics industry, preferably within the R&D department of a consumer hi-fi manufacturer.
  • Strong understanding of circuit schematics, PCB layouts, certification processes, and best practices in electronics design.
  • Taking product requirements and breaking them down into hardware-level requirements as part of concept development.

Optional

  • The right candidate may also have experience in design and innovation in audio electronics, contributing or leading electronics development.

Skills

  • Proficiency in analysing electronic schematics.
  • Strong familiarity with digital and analogue circuit design for audio; high-speed circuit design; power supply design.
  • Familiarity with a variety of hardware interface communication protocols. (Experience with networked audio standards preferred)
  • Extensive understanding of PCB design. (Experience with PADS PCB design software is preferred)
  • Familiarity with measurement tools and methodologies for assessing electronic components. (Experience with Audio Precision preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills for technical discussions across multicultural teams.
