The Auburn University Regional Airport seeks candidates for a TES Line Service Technicianto play a vital role in keeping operations running smoothly. In this hands-on position, you’ll help maintain airport facilities and grounds, service and refuel equipment, and provide essential flight line services to both local and transient aircraft.
Temporary Employment Services ( TES ), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:
- Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
- Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
- Assistance with special projects
- Seasonal work

Essential Functions
- Fuels aircraft using both Aviation Gasoline and Jet-A fuel. Responsible for ensuring aircraft are fueled according to specific orders and timetables.
- Assists in towing aircraft as required, ensuring safe movement on the airport grounds.
- Learns the trade of aircraft refueling, to include how to operate fuel trucks and associated components, measure fuel quantities in storage, check fuel quality, assist in receiving fuel shipments, coordinating fuel orders with flight school dispatch, and interacting with pilots and passengers.
- Operates and becomes familiar with ground support equipment, such as the aircraft tug, ground power unit ( GPU ), lavatory service cart, de-icing cart, forklift, golf cart, UTV , and airport shuttles.
- Ensures standard operating procedures are followed, utilizing detailed checklists to maintain accuracy and consistency.
- Trains, coaches, and mentors new hires.
- Ensures safety standards, guidelines, and best practices set forth by the National Air Transportation Association ( NATA ), Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ), Alabama Department of Transportation ( ALDOT ) and Auburn University are followed to the highest levels.
Tech II (Fixed Based Operator ( FBO ) Crew)
- Fuels aircraft using both Aviation Gasoline and Jet-A fuel. Responsible for managing and performing fuel quality control checks on the airport’s fuel inventory. Ensures aircraft are fueled according to specific orders and timetables.. Ensures oil inventory in fuel trucks is stocked and fulfills oil orders for customers as requested.
- Operates and becomes familiar with ground support equipment, such as the aircraft tugs, ground power unit ( GPU ), lavatory service cart, de-icing cart, forklift, golf cart, UTV , and airport shuttles; tows a large spectrum of complex aircrafts as needed; and marshals aircraft into parking spots.
- Ensures standard operating procedures are followed, utilizing detailed checklists to maintain accuracy and consistency.
- Performs routine airport grounds maintenance, such as mowing grass, applying herbicide, and changing airport lighting fixtures and bulbs.
- Manages the airport apron environment, conducts daily inspections to ensure security and cleanliness, and maintains airport perimeter fencing, gates, apron, shop, and storage facilities in a secure, clean, organized, and presentable condition at all times.
- Provides a high level of customer service to pilots and passengers by loading and unloading baggage from aircraft, assisting customers with baggage to the terminal or car , and providing flight crews with ice and coffee as requested.
- De-ices and de-frosts aircraft as needed and cleans aircraft windshields and services aircraft lavatory as requested.
- Collaborates with a diverse team of highly motivated individuals to ensure best management practices are followed.
- Assists first responders in emergency situations.
- Trains, coaches, and mentors new hires.
- Ensures safety standards, guidelines, and best practices set forth by the National Air Transportation Association ( NATA ), Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ), Alabama Department of Transportation ( ALDOT ), and Auburn University are followed to the highest levels.
Tech III (Ground Support Equipment)-
- Performs routine maintenance tasks, inspections, and repairs on aircraft, ground support equipment, and various airport facilities such as airport grounds, runways, and taxiways to ensure their safe and efficient operation.
- Performs general maintenance on airport equipment including tugs, power units, carts, forklifts, and shuttles and vehicles such as oil changes, fluid replenishment, and component inspections, to prevent breakdowns and ensure equipment longevity.
- Conducts airport grounds maintenance, including mowing, tree and brush cutting, and repairing lighting fixtures to ensure a well-maintained and safe environment.
- Refuels a wide range of piston and turbine engine aircraft using aviation gasoline and jet-a fuel trucks. Conducts fuel quality control tests to ensure compliance with safety standards. Maintains accurate records of fuel inventory levels.
- Assists with marshalling aircraft into parking spots and maintaining the airport apron environment. Assists Line Service Supervisor and Operations Manager in apron safety management during special events.
- Provides customer assistance, including loading and unloading baggage and cleaning aircraft windshields.
- Performs de-icing and lavatory service for aircraft as neededed
- Supports the training and mentoring of new employees, ensuring they understand and follow established procedures for safety, maintenance, and customer service.
- Maintains inventory of tools, parts, and equipment used by airport ground staff, ensuring availability and proper organization for efficient operations.
- Conducts regular inspections of the airport’s surface, facilities, and security measures to identify and report any deficiencies or potential hazards. Conduct compliance tests as required by regulatory agencies.
- Collaborates with colleagues, university departments, and contractors to ensure safe operations and facility maintenance. Coordinate maintenance and construction projects to maintain a secure and well-functioning airport environment.
