Aubay UK is seeking a Power BI Engineer to join a Greenfield project within a leading global energy organisation. The successful candidate will work independently, set their own priorities, and act as a subject matter expert across multiple IT domains. This role is focused on the functional design and development of complex applications and infrastructure, requiring strong hands‑on technical capability, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work closely with business stakeholders. Experience within trading or energy environments is advantageous but not essential.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Mastery‑level expertise in Power BI, including advanced DAX, Power BI development, visualisation best practices, and Power BI Service administration.
  • Experience with Snowflake and Azure Databricks as data platforms.
  • Strong SQL capability for querying, modelling, and transforming complex dataset structures.
  • Deep experience in data modelling, including semantic model design, star schemas, and enterprise BI architecture.
  • Hands‑on experience with Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, and Measure Killer for optimisation and model governance.
  • Strong understanding of GitHub‑based version control, CI/CD processes, and general DevOps patterns for BI environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead discussions, influence stakeholders, and work closely with business teams.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with DBT, IBM Data Manager, or broader ETL/ELT practices.
  • Exposure to trading environments or energy markets (advantageous but not required).
  • Foundational understanding of data engineering concepts.
  • Familiarity with governance topics such as Power BI licensing, capacity optimisation, and workspace administration.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and optimisation of BI solutions using Microsoft Power BI, advanced DAX, and robust data modelling practices.
  • Build and maintain high‑quality semantic models, star schemas, and tabular structures that support scalable analytics.
  • Act as SME across BI, reporting, and multiple IT/data domains, providing technical guidance and best‑practice recommendations.
  • Develop performant dashboards, reports, and datasets using tools such as Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, and Measure Killer.
  • Design and enhance ETL/ELT workflows across Snowflake, Azure Databricks, DBT, and IBM Data Manager (where applicable).
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective reporting and data solutions.
  • Support governance practices including version control (GitHub), CI/CD pipelines, Power BI Service administration, licence management, and capacity optimisation.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and advise on optimal use of applications, infrastructure, and reporting platforms.
  • Provide leadership within the team and contribute to shaping technical standards in a Greenfield environment.
