Aubay UK is seeking a Senior AI/ML Research Engineer to join the GenAI team within a leading oil and gas company's Data & AI organization. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying scalable AI/ML solutions across multiple business domains. The successful candidate will lead end-to-end machine learning solution development, from data exploration and experimentation through to deployment, monitoring, and optimisation. They will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including data engineering, infrastructure, DevOps, and product teams to deliver production-grade, enterprise-scale AI/ML systems aligned with quality, scalability, and reliability standards.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering and machine learning
- Strong expertise in designing and deploying large-scale ML systems and architectures
- Extensive hands-on experience with Azure cloud, including AI/ML services and data platforms
- Proven experience with Kubernetes for deployment, scaling, and monitoring
- Strong background in CI/CD pipelines and automation
- Experience with data platforms and tools such as ADLS, Spark, Databricks, SQL/NoSQL
- Experience in distributed computing and big data frameworks (e.g., PySpark)
- Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform and Helm
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience with Azure AI Foundry and modern GenAI platforms
- Hands-on experience building GenAI solutions using LangChain and Azure OpenAI
- Expertise in building enterprise-grade RAG systems, including context engineering and multimodal pipelines
- Experience designing and deploying multi-agent systems using modern orchestration frameworks
- Experience delivering Text-to-SQL solutions and natural language interfaces
- Familiarity with AWS (SageMaker) or GCP (Vertex AI)
- Frontend (React) or backend (.NET/C#) development experience
- Strong commercial awareness and business value delivery mindset
Roles and Responsibilities
- Design and deploy large-scale ML systems using modern engineering practices
- Build and maintain core ML infrastructure, including feature pipelines, model training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring
- Automate the end-to-end ML lifecycle, including data ingestion, experimentation, and optimisation
- Collaborate with product teams to translate business requirements into scalable ML solutions
- Work with DevOps and infrastructure teams to enhance CI/CD processes and deployment reliability
- Develop and implement GenAI solutions, including RAG pipelines and multi-agent architectures
- Contribute to innovation by staying up to date with emerging AI/ML technologies
- Support knowledge sharing and contribute to internal communities of practice
