Aubay UK is seeking a Solution Architect for their leading oil and gas client. This role is responsible for delivering enterprise-scale, fit-for-purpose solution designs that align with Shell’s IT strategy, Target Operating Environment (TOE), and reference architectures. The successful candidate will ensure technical integrity, optimal total cost of ownership across the lifecycle, and strong alignment between business outcomes and technology decisions.
This role supports high-impact programmes within the Downstream, Renewables, Trading & Supply portfolio, delivering critical ETRM transformation initiatives. Candidates will be required to be onsite 2–3 days per week in the Waterloo office.
Required Skills and Experience- Strong stakeholder management skills with proactive communication across technical and business teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to tailor content to senior and non-technical audiences
- Strong business acumen with the ability to link technology and architecture decisions to business outcomes
- Demonstrated experience delivering solution architecture consultancy and assurance in complex enterprise environments
- Delivery-focused, hands-on mindset with the ability to work autonomously within architectural guardrails
- Experience applying enterprise standards, governance, and architecture decision-making processes
- Experience within oil & gas, energy trading, or highly regulated enterprise environments
- Experience with ETRM or trading system transformation programmes (Products, Crude, or Investments)
- Hands-on experience using BiZZdesign / ArchiMate for architecture modelling
- Familiarity with TOGAF or similar architecture frameworks (TOGAF certification preferred)
- Understanding of Cloud, Integration, Mobile, Open Source, and Big Data architecture domains
- Provide solution architecture development, consultancy, and assurance to projects, ensuring alignment with Shell standards, reference architectures, and segment roadmaps
- Act as the primary point of contact for all architecture aspects of assigned IT projects in line with the Project Delivery Framework
- Develop and maintain Solution Architecture High-Level Designs (SAHLD) covering business processes, data, applications, technology, and information security
- Ensure solution architecture artefacts conform to standards using approved templates and BiZZdesign / ArchiMate tooling, promoting reuse where possible
- Proactively identify, communicate, mitigate, and resolve architectural risks, seeking step-out approvals where solutions deviate from standards
- Review and approve detailed solution designs and related test plans prior to implementation, ensuring documentation is kept current
- Support Architecture Review Boards and collaborate with Segment Architects as required
- Coach and guide technical consultants, business analysts, and delivery teams throughout the design process
- Maintain strong relationships with delivery teams, competence centres, suppliers, and senior business stakeholders
- Stay current with technology trends and internal Shell standards to ensure solutions are future-proof and aligned with evolving IT strategy
