We are seeking a highly skilled Production Technologist to join ATW Studio in Cardiff. The ideal candidate will be responsible for translating creative and 3D design concepts into production-ready 2D CAD drawings, ensuring all physical and digital outputs are feasible, efficient, and executed to the highest quality standards. This role bridges design and delivery, working closely with 3D Designers, Producers, Project Managers, and the wider creative team to ensure concepts are fully realisable across events, activations, installations, models, and immersive experiences.

THE ROLE

  • Translate 3D design assets into detailed 2D CAD drawings, factoring in production methods, materials, and fabrication constraints.
  • Develop technical specifications, production plans, and documentation for Fabrication and Installation.
  • Liaise with external suppliers, fabricators, and contractors to ensure accurate and high-quality production.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues across production workflows, including fabrication, installation, and material selection.
  • Support the development of prototypes, mock-ups, and digital representations for testing and feasibility.
  • Prepare documentation required for permits, compliance, and safe installation of projects.
  • Work closely with 3D Designers and the creative team to ensure design intent is maintained while optimizing for production efficiency.
  • Participate in on-site production and installation, ensuring technical solutions are executed effectively and safely.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in production processes, CAD standards, and technical workflows.

Required skills and qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a production, fabrication, or technical design role, preferably within events, installations, or experiential design.
  • Strong expertise in 2D CAD (AutoCAD or equivalent) and ability to interpret and translate 3D design files into production-ready drawings (Company uses Sketchup).
  • Knowledge of materials, fabrication techniques, and production workflows.
  • Experience collaborating with creative, design, and production teams to deliver feasible and high-quality outputs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and technical creativity.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Comfortable working on-site during production and installation phases if required.
