We are looking for a skilled 3D Modeller / Fabrication Specialist to join ATW Studio in Cardiff. The ideal candidate will work from sketches to 3D models, supporting the creative team in translating concepts into production-ready models for ATW Build (LEGO brick structures) and ATW Make (fibreglass models). This role ensures that all models are accurate, production-ready, and aligned with the creative vision, bridging the gap between concept design and physical fabrication across experiential projects, installations, and display models.
Responsibilities:
- Work from sketches or concept designs to create highly detailed 3D models ready for production.
- Support the Creative Team in translating concepts into practical models for ATW Build (LEGO Brick structures) and ATW Make (fibreglass models).
- Prepare production-ready 3D files, considering scale, materials, and fabrication feasibility.
- Collaborate with Production Technologists to translate 3D models into drawings and fabrication guides.
- Work with the Brick Specialist Modeller to turn models into LEGO Brick Structures.
- Produce prototypes, mock-ups, and test prints to validate design feasibility.
- Maintain design integrity while ensuring models are practical, manufacturable, and buildable.
- Manage and organize 3D assets and maintain version control for all project files.
- Stay up to date with 3D modelling, fabrication, and prototyping technologies, including 3D printing and composite materials.
Required skills and qualifications:
- 2+ years of professional 3D modelling experience in model-making and digital output.
- Strong skills in 3D modelling software (Rhino, Blender, Maya, etc.) – SketchUp experience is a bonus.
- Experience producing 3D models for 3D Print and multi-purpose output for digital and physical.
- Understanding of materials, scale, and production workflows for prototypes and final builds.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and technical accuracy.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Passion for translating creative concepts into show-stopping models.
