We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with a strong background in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and general electrical installation design. The successful candidate will hold a City & Guilds 2396 Level 4 Electrical Design qualification and have the practical knowledge needed to deliver compliant, buildable designs.
You will be responsible for producing high-quality electrical designs and technical documentation for EV charging projects across commercial, industrial, and residential environments.
Key Responsibilities- Design compliant electrical systems for EV charging installations (AC & DC)
- Produce detailed electrical drawings, layouts, and schematics
- Carry out load calculations, cable sizing, and protection coordination
- Ensure designs meet BS 7671 and relevant industry standards
- Support projects from concept through installation and commissioning
- Liaise with project managers, installers, DNOs, and clients
- Review site surveys and resolve installation and design challenges
- Maintain and update drawings and design documentation
- 2396 City & Guilds Level 4 Electrical Design qualification (essential)
- Proven experience as an Electrical Design Engineer
- Demonstrable experience with EV charging infrastructure
- Strong background in general electrical installation design
- Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Bluebeam (essential)
- Sound knowledge of UK electrical regulations (BS 7671)
- Ability to translate site information into practical designs
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with DNO applications and grid connections
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems (solar PV, battery storage)
- Commercial or industrial electrical project experience
- Familiarity with EV charger manufacturers and standards
