Role
- Work closely with underwriting teams to provide support to underwriters in maintaining existing pricing tools, including providing periodic updates where these are needed to remain up to date, or extensions/changes to existing tools to improve usefulness.
- Develop new pricing tools where needed; for example new accounts or sections of accounts or where an existing account may benefit from a pricing tool.
- Ensure an effective roll out of tools provided to underwriters and ensure that tools are effectively embedded within teams on an ongoing basis.
- Carry out individual risk pricing where requested by class underwriter or Syndicate Active Underwriter.
- Develop awareness of actuarial pricing support available so that underwriters continue to develop and enhance the actuarial pricing offering.
- Bring experience to suggest and implement tangible improvements to current pricing practices.
- Support underwriting teams in developing pricing methodology documents that reflect current practices and helping teams improve these to the best methodologies possible.
- Ensure an appropriate level of peer review and documentation of pricing work in line with current actuarial standards.
- Support Atrium’s compliance with external regulations including Lloyd’s Principles for Doing Business relevant to pricing.
- Provide support to Atrium’s second line oversight when requested by Agency or senior Underwriting staff – commonly by providing a one-off pricing review on individual contracts.
- Provide mentoring and support to junior members of the pricing team.
- Assist members of the team with offering further career development.
- Assist with business planning work for individual classes and ensure that pricing activities feed into and are consistent with this work where relevant.
- Provide support cross-team to ensure knowledge from pricing activities is adequately reflected in other activities (e.g. reserving and capital modelling assumptions) aiming for a consistency of approach across the team.
- Support the roll out of new pricing platform in the future as needed.
- Enhance existing analytics, working closely with underwriting and data functions.
Required skills
- FIA or equivalent, or close to achieving FIA.
- Highly numerate with financial awareness.
- A thorough understanding of the classes of business transacted by the organization.
- Good judgement skills regarding task prioritisation, delegation and resource allocation.
- Able to take responsibility for own competence and address requirements in a timely manner.
- Good IT skills and in particular, good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and dedicated Actuarial software. Knowledge of pricing platforms is useful but not essential.
- A good understanding of Lloyd’s and a knowledge of issues affecting the insurance market.
- Good mentoring skills. Ability to motivate and work well with team members.
