Description
- Work with the Data team to ensure the appropriate infrastructure and tools are being used for gathering, storing and analysis of data.
- Utilise the availability of market data to provide analysis and share insight.
- Make appropriate recommendations and improvements to analyses and tools to ensure the team are equipped to actively manage the portfolio.
- Support the Portfolio Underwriter to lead the build out and growth of the portfolio.
- Actively monitor the key drivers of performance, to support portfolio monitoring and performance.
- Work with Portfolio Underwriter and strategic partners on building out and monitoring of the underlying and overall portfolios.
- Communication with externals and internals (especially capital, pricing and exposure management) on portfolio strategy – including tactical decisions and the more holistic vision and approach.
- Develop strategic analytics, tools and insights to optimise portfolios and enable smarter underwriting decisions.
- Be an advocate for the use of data to support decision making.
- Support the Portfolio Underwriter in providing accurate and timely management information to syndicate leadership, the wider Atrium business and other internal and external stakeholders.
Skills required
- Experience in an insurance-related technical role with exposure to front-line underwriting for at least two years.
- Working knowledge of all classes typically written in London Market.
- Experience making and challenging decisions based on class and market specific characteristics.
- Strong understanding and experience of working with delegated portfolios.
- Genuine experience building and embedding underwriting and portfolio models from scratch.
- Ability to use and communicate standard actuarial techniques.
- Experience supporting formulation of appropriately detailed multi-year underwriting plans.
- Experience in assessing and challenging credibility of planning assumptions and presenting results to stakeholders.
- Experience working across multiple teams with exposure management, actuarial and claims.
- Experience working with exposure and claims bordereaux very desirable.
- Genuine power user of excel. Able to code proficiently in VBA, SQL, DAX in order to automate and streamline new and existing processes.
- Able to build data visualisation dashboards using PowerBI or Tableau quickly and efficiently. Ideally a working knowledge of Alteryx (or similar).
- Ideally have an understanding of back-end data warehousing.
