We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Portfolio Underwriter to take ownership of the performance and profitability of key commercial products and portfolios.
Role
- Analyse and review portfolio performance to ensure optimisation, resilience and profitable outcomes through the cycle.
- Define, develop, and deliver the underwriting strategy for the cross-class portfolios, ensuring that the annual business plan is written profitably and within all agreed risk constraints/aggregate budgets, with a view to long term expansion of the portfolio and proposition.
- Bring an understanding of the Lloyd’s and global market.
- Continually monitor risk appetite patterns to drive the team’s portfolio strategy, maintaining profitability targets.
- Hold strong senior market relationships to enable the development of a profitable portfolio and continue to build new global relationships to access distribution channels.
- Clearly document and regularly update the underwriting strategy and maintain up-to-date appetite to reflect the market conditions.
- Focus on areas of the portfolio and review based on distribution partner and market feedback.
- Work with the distribution partners on development and management of the underwriting strategy and portfolio management.
- Develop the revenue strategy with input from the exposure management team to optimise revenue generation and business mix.
- Work with the actuarial function (especially capital) to ensure understanding and alignment of the portfolio strategy with the capital strategy.
- Work with the active underwriter on communications with and reports for capital providers.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Previous experience across Underwriting in either the Lloyds or company market.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- A strong commercial understanding of underwriting. Able to assimilate into strategic discussions around the structuring and management of portfolios.
- Track record of success in the development and execution of commercially viable strategies, with high standards of delivery in a timely, cost-effective way.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills to drive revenue and business development opportunities across our distribution network.
- Strong organisational credentials to help drive a dynamic team to deliver the revenue strategy in a coherent manner.
