The Role
You will take responsibility for the commercial management of groundworks projects from tender stage through to final account, ensuring projects are delivered profitably while maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Measurement & Cost Planning: Undertake take-offs and measures from drawings and specifications. Assess labour, plant and material requirements. Prepare and review Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
- Variations Management: Identify, price and negotiate project variations. Ensure all changes are accurately recorded and agreed with clients. Review existing rates and negotiate additional rates where required.
- Applications & Commercial Management: Prepare and submit monthly valuations and applications for payment. Monitor project costs and financial performance. Chase outstanding payments and maintain healthy cash flow.
- Tendering: Prepare and submit competitive tenders. Liaise with internal teams to review submissions. Obtain feedback and follow up on tender opportunities.
- Client Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and commercial teams. Attend meetings, site visits and project reviews as required. Support discussions surrounding pre-starts, valuations and final accounts.
- Forecasting & Reporting: Produce accurate commercial forecasts for live projects. Monitor project profitability and identify potential risks and opportunities. Provide regular updates and reports to senior management. Communicate project performance effectively across the business.
About You
- Previous experience within a Quantity Surveying role, ideally within Groundworks, Civil Engineering or Infrastructure sectors.
- Ability to manage projects independently.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Experience with valuations, variations, forecasting and final accounts.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
