Construction Buyer - A well-established construction firm is seeking a Construction Buyer to oversee the procurement of materials, plant, and external labour for various construction projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring timely delivery of resources within budget, while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance. Your role: Identifying suitable suppliers and subcontractors, obtaining quotes, negotiating prices and terms, and managing purchase orders. Ensuring materials and services are purchased at the most cost-effective prices while maintaining quality and adhering to project budgets. Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, monitoring their performance, and resolving any issues related to quality, delivery, or pricing. Negotiating contracts with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring favourable terms and conditions for the company. Ensuring materials and services meet the required quality standards and specifications. Tracking inventory levels and ensuring materials are available when needed, minimising delays and waste. Working closely with project managers, estimators, and other team members to understand project requirements and ensure timely delivery of materials. Identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with the supply chain, such as price fluctuations, material shortages, and supplier delays. Ensuring all procurement activities comply with relevant health and safety regulations, company policies, and legal requirements. Requirements: Previous experience in construction purchasing or procurement is essential. In-depth knowledge of construction materials, plant, and subcontractors. Strong negotiation skills to secure the best prices and terms from suppliers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams. Strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects, track inventory, and maintain accurate records. Ability to identify and resolve issues related to procurement, supply chain, or supplier performance. Proficiency in using procurement software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant software.
