Position Overview
The Surety Underwriter is responsible for underwriting a portfolio of surety risks, developing broker and client relationships, and contributing to the strategic growth of our UK surety business.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal surety bond submissions in line with company guidelines and risk appetite
- Conduct detailed financial and credit analysis of applicants, including corporate financial statements and industry trends
- Structure and price surety bond programs to ensure profitability and compliance with internal standards
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and other stakeholders
- Identify and underwrite new business opportunities
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and client meetings
- Manage and monitor a diverse portfolio of surety risks, ensuring balanced growth and profitability
- Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal audit requirements
- Resolve outstanding underwriting and claim matters promptly to mitigate risks
- Provide structured management reporting and accurate system data entries in a timely manner
- Mentor and support junior underwriters and contribute to team development
- Collaborate with legal, claims, administrative and finance teams
- Support the European Surety team in developing profitable business and customer relationships
