The Surety Underwriter is responsible for underwriting a portfolio of surety risks, developing broker and client relationships, and contributing to the strategic growth of our UK surety business.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal surety bond submissions in line with company guidelines and risk appetite.
- Conduct detailed financial and credit analysis of applicants, including corporate financial statements and industry trends.
- Structure and price surety bond programs to ensure profitability and compliance with internal standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Identify and underwrite new business opportunities.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and client meetings.
- Manage and monitor a diverse portfolio of surety risks, ensuring balanced growth and profitability.
- Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal audit requirements.
- Resolve outstanding underwriting and claim matters promptly to mitigate risks.
- Provide structured management reporting and accurate system data entries in a timely manner.
- Mentor and support junior underwriters and contribute to team development.
- Collaborate with legal, claims, administrative and finance teams.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of surety products, including contract and commercial bonds.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
- Strong negotiation and communication abilities.
- Proven ability to assess complex financial and operational risks.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
