The Software Architecture Platform team’s mission is to enable fast flow and reduce cognitive load for development teams by providing application foundations such as starter libraries, application scaffolds as well as enablement support for modern software development. This work is part of a broader shift to improve developer experience, accelerate delivery, and ensure consistent application architecture across the organization.
We’re looking for a Senior Engineer to join this team and take a leading role in shaping, building, and supporting these internal platform products with a particular focus on Spring Boot Java and our Event Driven Architecture. Office location is Amsterdam, Cardiff or Madrid.
As a Senior Engineer you will:
- Design & Build Core Libraries: Lead the design and development of reusable libraries that simplify development in areas such as security, observability, and event-driven integration with Kafka.
- Evolve Application Scaffolding: Own and enhance our Java application scaffolds, ensuring new services start from a solid, standards-aligned, and secure foundation.
- Champion Event-Driven Architecture: Actively guide and support teams in their adoption of EDA, providing hands-on enablement, expert partnership, and using their feedback to improve the platform.
- Drive Standards & Quality: Lead by example in our internal communities of practice to drive adoption of standards and ensure all platform products are rigorously tested, observable, and secure.
- Enable the Community: Create and maintain clear, effective developer documentation and training materials for our engineering community.
Knowledge, skills and experience:
- Deep, practical experience as a Java/Spring Boot engineer, with a track record of delivering high-quality backend solutions in enterprise environments.
- Proven experience with Kafka, OpenAPI/Swagger, including designing and integrating event-driven services.
- Experience building and maintaining shared libraries, SDKs, or platform services.
- Strong understanding of software design principles, clean code, testing strategies, and secure coding practices.
- Familiarity with Azure services and modern DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, containerisation).
- Excellent command of English (both written and spoken).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
