You will be managing 20 highly skilled technicians producing highly complex mechanical mechanisms for aerospace applications. Some of these assemblies comprise up to 300 parts and take 6 days to complete, including inspection and testing at multiple stages of production.

Your background is probably from a time-served apprenticeship with experience in managing skilled engineering production staff covering areas such as setting performance expectations, reviews, appraisals, disciplinaries, and training needs analysis. Crucially, you need to be comfortable in having uncomfortable conversations.

You need to be conversant with engineering drawings, interpreting technical and manufacturing data, identifying trends, solving unexpected problems, and managing priorities.
