Technical Delivery Lead is accountable for the successful delivery of large-scale, complex technical programmes, often spanning multiple teams, domains and client organisations. The role requires expert-level leadership capability, deep technical competence across cloud and data engineering and the ability to operate confidently at senior stakeholder levels. The position also requires active UK Security Clearance and regular work within secure and highly regulated environments.
Key Requirements:
- Active UK Security Clearance (SC or higher)
- Extensive experience leading large or multi-workstream technical delivery programmes in cloud, data or platform environments
- Expert-level knowledge of Azure services including Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, Azure Key Vault, Azure DevOps and Azure Networking
- Technical expertise in orchestration, performance optimisation and large-scale data processing
- Demonstrable experience communicating complex technical issues in clear, concise language suitable for non-technical audiences, including senior executives
- Strong ability to manage and influence senior client stakeholders, including programme directors, C-suite representatives and governance boards
- Proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams across architecture, data engineering, software development and testing
- Ability to identify, quantify, manage and mitigate technical and delivery risks across large-scale programmes
Nice-to-Have Skills & Technologies:
- Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Experience configuring pipelines in Azure DevOps (ADO)
- Azure networking, Databricks, Storage Accounts, IAM and Virtual Machines
- Containerisation using Docker or Docker-Compose
- CI/CD using Azure DevOps Pipelines
- Security tooling such as image/filesystem scanning using Trivy
Essential Skills:
- Bash and Python
- Version control using Azure DevOps (ADO)
- Python and PySpark programming skills
- YAML for configuration and automation workflows
- Strong SQL skills for complex querying, optimisation and data modelling
- Github
- Understanding of medallion architecture, ADLS and Databricks — with focus on parquet files and delta tables
- Experience working with Azure cloud services such as Azure Synapse Analytics
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist in the end-to-end delivery of major technical programmes using Azure, PySpark and Databricks technologies
- Ensure architecture alignment and technical strategy for large-scale engineering teams
- Act as senior technical authority and escalation point for complex issues impacting delivery timelines or solution integrity
- Engage with senior client stakeholders to provide assurance, articulate risk and present clear delivery updates
- Ensure all solution designs and delivery activities comply with security requirements and governance frameworks
- Oversee engineering excellence, automation and adoption of modern DevOps practices across delivery teams
- Translate complex technical challenges into business-focused language suitable for executive-level decision-making
- Drive continuous improvement of delivery processes, engineering standards and productivity across teams
- Coordinate transition into operational support, ensuring readiness across service, security and support teams
- Demonstrate leadership presence and credibility when interacting with senior client personnel
- Build trusted advisor relationships with stakeholders through transparency, clarity and technical authority
- Champion cross-team collaboration and foster a high-performance delivery culture
- Support team development through mentoring, coaching and sharing of delivery best practices
- Continuously suggest delivery approaches to meet evolving client requirements, regulatory demands and organisational priorities
