AWE is currently recruiting for a Team Leader Production Operations for the Operations Group. This role is ideally suited to a production trainer or experienced production professional with strong leadership capability and a passion for developing people and driving operational excellence.

Working within the Operations Group, the successful candidate will be required to undertake the day-to-day leadership of production activities, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of operations whilst coaching and developing team members to meet performance and quality standards. In addition to supporting the continuous improvement of production processes, training programmes, and operational best practice across the team.

Who are we looking for?

  • Proven experience within a production, manufacturing, or training environment
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to coach, mentor and develop others

Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we’d like you to have experience in some of the following:

  • Delivering training or developing team capability within an operational environment
  • Leading teams within a safety-critical or highly regulated environment
  • Continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma or similar)
  • Planning, organising and prioritising production activities

You’ll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leadership of direct reports to successfully plan and deliver their authorised programmes, tasks and projects to time, cost, and quality.
  • Maintain and promote high personal standards, and team performance, in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player.
  • Additional accountabilities for this job profile may be defined and appointed through the Chief Engineer Management Arrangements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing adequate supervision of all operations within the area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for the day to day deliverables of the programme within manufacturing areas.
  • Engage and support relationships at a local level to promote high performing teams.
  • Ensure staff are competent and trained to carry out assigned tasks safely to time, cost and quality in aid of the manufacturing programme.
  • Support the delivery performance of the production scheduling to meet customer requirements.
  • Manage Key Performance Indicator metrics on schedule, quality, safety, delivery and cost.
  • Lead and deliver the local Accountability Board (Visual Management Boards).
  • Actively engage and support the Production Associate PDG process.
  • Give advice and guidance on career development including coaching, provision of feedback and providing appropriate support.
  • Promote and sponsor operational excellence and drive all actions aimed at continuous process improvement.
  • Work effectively with others and build required relationships and interfaces to support delivery of the Programme.
  • Provide a diverse and inclusive working environment that allows individuals to flourish and realise their potential.
  • Work with others to form high performing teams.
  • Adopt a ‘See It, Own It, Solve It’ mind-set, by identifying obstacles to success and taking ownership to find solutions to those problems.
  • Responsible for undertaking other duties as reasonably required from time to time by line and task management.

Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.
